I remember that Phil coded it in a shack in hawaii on an atari that was
powered by a Jeep. Rob, I think you should give some credit to the Jeep in
your FAQ.

This is from the FAQ:

Also, there is an extensive "readme" displayed if you try to boot The City
with Disk 1 Side 2 in the drive:

After this text there appears some strange characters. However, these are just
some garbled characters that made it into the string, and no secret message
(apparently, the string length is wrong somewhere in the code).

Yes, I do have information on that subject, along with other trivia on
the sourcecode and it's whereabouts... but I did not want to put that
in the FAQ, since it would probably spam me or Philip Price and Ken
Jordan with questions about the source.

But, I can always give you what I know in this forum (since it has been
said before by Ken Jordan and Dan Pinal themselves, anyway): It was
coded using Merlin assembler on the Apple II (source is stored on 50
disks, 140k each). Oh, and the game uses a custom OS and is encrypted
using a simple scheme (pherhaps Ken or Dan remembers what algorithm was
used?).

As for The City, I can't currently locate any details regarding the
code, but it must be in assembler that too, but I don't know on what
format it was coded on, nor how the source is stored. If Philip Price
is on this list, pherhaps he can enlighten us?
