....alright, some activity on the list now, so perhaps it's time to reply.
Right now, I'm doing a project involving real money (woo, but remember, I'm
just a student) so I need to have my full attention on that. This thing
started at the end of the summer and will continue to the end of the year
(if not longer).
That is the time when I had planned to start the coding part of the AR game
for Palm.
However, now Palm has decided to put out a new device on the market with a
320x320 65k color screen and a 144mhz OMAP cpu + a 200mhz DSP which is
together, apparently 2.5 times faster than the 400mhz XSCALE that PocketPC
devices use (as shown during a graphical demonstration).
Of course, I want this. I NEED this... well not really need, maybe, but the
mp3 playback from SD cards would be nice (I'm on trains a lot, which is
boring).
So, do I code for the now old and obsolete OS4 or do I choose the new OS5?
I really don't know.
It would probably reach alot more people on the OS4 platform, but OS5 would
be much more fun to work on (and yes, I know that OS5 is "backwards
compatible"). Also, the PocketPC already has an Atari 800 emulator which
could probably run AR, and since the new Palm is even more powerful, I bet
that an Atari 800 emulator port will happen very soon...
So, it's a matter of balancing of fun, effort and usefulness and some other
things, and right now, I honestly don't know what will happen. Perhaps I
will push the game forward and see how the Palm market develops and what
kind of games are released (since I already said that I won't do a 100%
port, but rather try to evolve the game a bit, though not on the graphical
or interface side, but rather in the regions of what the Amiga version was
trying to accomplish).
/Robert

are really beginning to hold their own for all sorts of games, including
MMORPG style. I like the Microsofy $20/mo play any game you want pricing,
but I'm loyal to PS and don't plan on spending any money on a video game
system or online gaming. YMMV.
