Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I should think
the old 8-bits would be able to play back a digital stream, but the
decoding almost certainly couldn't be done in real-time. Reminds me
of the old days on the Amiga where you had to wait two or three minutes
while it decompressed JPGs.
