woohoo, now I have an excuse to go watch it again to see what happens after
the credits. ;-)
The special effects weren't really what they were in the first one.. I read
an article (in Time I think...or maybe Wired) about this. I think they were
trying to avoid doing the same special effects that were in the first
Matrix... because since that came out, *everyone* has copied that style..
and I think they felt like the sequel would be a rip-off if they kept doing
the same thing.
Technically speaking, the scene where all the Smiths are fighting Neo is
marvelous. The entire thing was rendered from motion capture data and
gazillions of pictures of the two actors, which is the first film in history
to do it.. normally rendered actors end up being obviously not human, like
JarJar (yuck). I think the research that they did on it will have very cool
results in the long run - hell, it might be possible in the future to have a
movie that is purely digital, and you can actually just choose who you want
to play the leads.. unfortunately for the Matrix 2 though, it's not very
mature and just didn't look as cool and cutting edge as everything in the
first one did.
That all said, I am still waiting anxiously for the finale... I think the
fate of Reloaded lies in how good Revolutions is.
