4 to FIVE years... you can't expect a novice such as
myself to be able to crack something awesome out
overnight, can ya? ;)
I agree with you on every aspect mentioned. I'm
workin on it... That is all I'm going to say for the
time being - bad luck, remember? lol Besides, how do
I know you're not a spy >:| (that's a joke, by the
way... you don't SEEM to work for Microsoft... d'oh!!
there's the Microsoft bashing again - sorry Allan, if
you're listening - yep, I'm one of dem *nix freaks hee
hee)
Pushing up my sunglasses and pulling down my
wide-rimmed hat, I bid you ado for the time being,
-Sharon

Dan, if you're particularly interested in a little
more detail on what I'd *like* to accomplish, feel
free to contact me outside the message board. I don't
want to fill up everyone's email with my own grandiose
ideas that are more or less unrelated to Alternate
Reality. Plus, I have no desire to post my ideas to
the masses so early on, as this message board is open
to the public - even on a one to one basis, I'm still
only willing to share the very broadest of my ideas at
this point. However, if you're interested... email is
sgosselink--yahoo.com , icq 8985620 and .NET Passport
for Messenger is the same email address listed above.

Well of course caffeine. That goes without saying.
4 years? Guess I don't need to rush out and buy a new
video cardjust yet :)
I think one of the realistic drawbacks to making a
true roleplaying gameis testing it. You're bound to
see results you didn't expect, andif you actually did
it right none of these surprises would be
consideredbugs.
I've liked the potential of fuzzy logic for RPGs.
There is so muchpotential for them -- generating
changes for evolving populations,economies, natural
resources, and natural disaster outcomes. We'veseen
non RPGs use evolving models, Civilization type games.
Itwould be nice to apply similar things to RPGs where
quests and missionsdon't come from scripts but are
created ad hoc. Failure, success and timeliness go
back into the karmic stew. I'd like tohave encounters
based on player karma. So you kill a few orcs in
anarea and get a reputation. Kill a few more and
maybe they decide tohunt you. Keep it up and as you
rise in power so does the wrath ofenemies you made.
Perhaps banding together or even assemblingarmies and
going to war. It's all doable now. But it
takesscrapping every engine that's been made before.
I've had many ideas I'd like to be able to put in a
game, I just haven'tfound anyone crazy enough to fund
it. I think Phil's seen the samething.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion
It is by the beans of Java
the thoughts acquire speed, the teeth acquire stains
The stains become a warning
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion
