Frank,
I've
been looking into the exact same thing. The only thing that actually wanted to
run under PPC2002/2003 is the atari 800 emulator with the dungeon version of
AR.
Below
I've copy/pasted my research on the subject which I posted to the list some time
ago. I failed to mention the SPEED at which is works, which is appaling ....
unplayable actually.
It
also involves quite a bit of diskswapping (which is quite tedious to do in the
atari800 emu).
If you
find any better way to play AR on the PPC.. PLEASE let me know, it would be a
dream come true....

Attempts to run AR on my PocketPC :
-Using 'CastCE',
Atari ST emulator :
CITY : Tried loading the disk image for the city, got error message
:
'BAD BOOT INFO! HERE IS THE EVALUATION' Then it gives me boxes for side
sectors and tracks ... (1,9,80 are the defaults..) No matter what i try i dont
get past this screen. I also tried loading the emulator with different TOS
versions (I tried 1.0 and 1.04, CastCE advertises that it can work with those
versions..)
-Using PocketC64,
Commodore 64 emulator.
CITY : Loads up
disk 1 and decrunches fine. I see the UFO abduction screen and get past it. Then
i get to the screen where I choose to create a character. i get the same problem
about character disks. Initialising a character disk fails with a write error.
But also, when I try a temporary character, I can jump the gate but after that
it asks me for disk1 and no matter which disk I load in the drive ... it won't
start the game ;((
DUNGEON : Loads up into a black screen and just sits there.
-Using 'Atari800', Atari 800 emulator for PocketPC's :
CITY : I get to the game start screen (past the ufo abduction scene)
But
then I cannot create a new character as it asks me for a character disk. If I
put a character disk in, it fails to write to it .. (i did enable write access
to the floppy drive in the emulator). If I try to let it create a new character
disk, it fails to format. So I got my atari800win back in action and copied /
created a new character disk on there. To no avail, AR on the Ipa still fails to
write to it.
If I start a TEMPORARY character... it almost works. I can enter
the gates, and after a few disk swaps, I end up in Xebec's demise... I see
all my stats, food packets and all that but the screen just stays black instead
of showinf me the town center. (So even with a proper writable character disk,
I'd still be pretty stuck)
DUNGEON : WORKS
100% !!! I havnt tried saving my game from within AR, but since the emulator has
a 'SAVE/LOAD STATE' function , I won't need it anyway .. (and don't think it
will work after all the trouble I had with character disks)
So basicly I've come as far as the gates to the city on most emu's but not
into the actual city .. (bummer!!).
And the Atari 800 version of the Dungeon
is working fine.... (w00t w000000t !!!!) Has anybody else ever tried this, or
does anybody have an idea on how I could get ANY city version working
?
