And I bet this is going to get lost in the
onslaught of mail we've had recently, but if you want an interesting MMORPG in
a more traditional vein, I still suggest the game I've been suggesting on
this mailing list for the last two or three years:
Nexon's Dark Ages.
I believe it has got almost five years behind it
now, and still, 99% of the features in that game are unique to it. No other
MMORPG comes close to being an RPG when matched against that game. I mean,
what other game has its own teathric group, recognized by the developers, who've
built them their own scene to perform on? What other game has its own sports
(Sumo Wrestling and Goblin Football)? What other game has a library with books
written by people in the game, and a lecture hall where players can teach other
players about the world for experience? What
other game has political arena which actually works (people who get voted mayors
get to elect their own laws with a council of players which other players, voted
guards, actually enforce upon the rest of the people playing). What other game
has a religious system which actually works (player priests actually regularly
hold ceremonies, inlcuding mass and proper weddings)? What other game has huge
banquetts where you actually have to dress up, bring a flower and learn the
proper dance moves? The list goes ON FOR HOURS! :)
But, again, as I've said from time to time, despite
the game being an absolute utopia for a roleplayer, most of the people playing
it are absolute idiots totally ignoring the rules. Hopefully, the recent
knighthood system has cleaned up some, but it has been a year since I tried the
game now.
