Re: Action/RPGs

Actually, I've been playing two pretty decent Action/RPG hybrids on my
Xbox: X-Men Legends and KOTOR. They both have their roots firmly in an
RPG engine, but their different styles (X-Men is to Diablo as KOTOR is
to Baldurs Gate). Both are fun and have good storylines, and X-Men even
allows for multiplayer (so my wife can have some fun too) so that's
really what's been eating up my weekends.

Granted, neither conform to the strict RPG definitions we all hold so
dear, but I have to say that they are both interesting and fun, and
allow just enough customization to keep an RPG Statistician interested.
It's really too bad the miniscule RAM on the X-Box has had such an
effect on map sizes and load times -- at least having an internal HD has
kept saving times to a minimum ;) I remember playing FFVII on the PS1,
and having to wait for that sucker to save up to the memory card. And
god forbid you tried to keep a friend's game on there as well!

At present, at least, Fable has been a total wash. I feel guilty for
having been so excited about it in the first place, and only the packrat
mentality (I'll finish it, *someday*) has kept me from putting it up on
Ebay or taking it back to Gamestop for credit. It hurts just to play
it, thinking about how much better I imagined it would be.

This is what I'm playing lately :

Sims 2 (super addictive)
Rome Total War (was nice when I first played it, havn't been back to it
yet but I will) Morrowind (completed with tribunal addon installed -
thinking of reinstalling with a bunch of big addons I downloaded like
the wildernes mod) Doom 3 (got about halfway, didn't start it up since)
AR the dungeon (just started a character, I never played the dungeon
before... Almost level 2 now .. hehe)

I've seen the Bard's Tale on the Xbox last week, I was dissapointed to
see that nothing from the original game was left ONLY THE INTRO TUNE WAS
STILL THE SAME !!! You get to assign points to your stats as in ye olde
bards tale, but that's where the similarities end. You can ONLY play
with a bard character. Nice graphics and sound, even some funny jokes in
there ... but just not my kinda gameplay. It's become a total 'action
rpg' thingy and I'm no big fan of those. It's Bard's Tale for the next
generation.

Ohh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound all disgruntled. I just hate
these things, and was very upset to see that 3 of them had my name on
them. My message wasn't directed at you, just thought I should make sure
no one thought the webmaster of the list was sending them viruses. :)

I might as well start up a new topic, since it's been quite for a
while... What games is everyone currently playing? Right now, between
work, work and more work I find some time to play...

Neverwinter Nights
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
Dungeon Siege

What else is everyone playing?

Be well,

lol.. no worries about that, i wasn't accusing you.

that's what makes these new viruses so annoying. if you are infected,
it searches your address book and uses some for the "to" address.. like
the old ones did.. and then use other email addresses for the "from"
address... which is relatively a new idea. so people who know me, who
know the chances of me getting a virus are 1 in a gazillion, might still
get a virus from "me" because i'm in someone else's address book.

it's ingenius, yet bastardly. whoever invented these should have their
alignment set to incredibly evil, get attacked by fbi agents with the
long arm of the law, and be fed slowly and painfully to the devourer.
