Imo, WoW is not special at all, gameplay wise. The graphics, however,
are very special, because in this day of 3D greaphics striving to become
as realistic as possible, Blizzard has instead pulled of the (what I
previously thought impossible) feat of accurately translating their
wonderful 2D art into the third dimension. Whenever playing the game,
you feel like you are walking around in a painting, and it is all very
impressive (I have the Collector's Edition, so I have their equally
impressive art book as well).

I would like to name WoW the spiritual successor of World of Xeen, in
fact, and the spiritual successor to the art of Bonita Long-Hemsath! If
AR was made today, I would hope for WoW like graphics, instead of gritty
realism, because imo, there isn't a game out there today which can pull
off gritty realism convincingly (unless you could The City, of course). :)
